The Dalton gang was one of the most famous of all the outlaw gangs that terrorized the old west. They were famous for robbing trains, but their leader, Bob Dalton, was obsessed with being bigger than Jesse James. He wanted to "beat anything Jesse James ever did—rob two banks at once, in broad daylight."
This was the plan as they decided to rob the town of Coffeyville, Kansas. Unfortunately, they were famous enough to be recognized. As they robbed the banks, the townspeople got their guns. As the Dalton gang left the bank, the gunfight began. At the end of the battle, four members of the gang were dead and so were four townspeople.
The defenders of the city and the Dalton gang are buried in Coffeyville's Elmwood Cemetery. People say that this area is known to make people feel uncomfortable.
