Just a year ago, I hadn’t heard of paranormal investigations, EVP, K-2 meters, or so many of the other concepts and gadgetry used regularly to document the existence of ghosts.
Make no mistake about it, I believe there are spirits among us.
Roughly 20 years ago, my wife and I – along with our infant son – moved into a home where the previous owner had died. We learned later that she had bled to death in the second floor bathroom. We would have bought the house even if we knew of the traumatic death prior to closing. Neither myself or my wife had any reason to worry about ghostly activity since we hadn’t encountered it before then. The specifics are best reserved as a topic for a future post, but I will say that the ghostly activity was distinctly targeted towards me. Sometimes, it seems as though the years have tempered the events that took place in that house into questionable memories. The place was haunted though, and things took place while we lived there that no amount of time can erase completely.
My current fascination with the paranormal happened quite by accident. As I said, only a year ago all this was unknown to me, then on Christmas Eve. I happened to be channel surfing and came across a Ghost Hunter marathon on the SyFy Channel. I stayed up most of the night watching episode after episode. In particular, I was impressed by the use of technology to collect evidence. I was relieved that claims of paranormal experiences were openly celebrated not considered freakish or demented. That night, I was able to come to grips with the latent fears and emotions that had stayed with me since having paranormal encounters so long ago.
It’s safe to say that I quite unexpectedly began a personal journey that night. Since then I’ve collected EVP on a digital recorder. I’ve ventured with an experienced team of investigators into a haunted building where I encountered a cold spot, asked a chain hanging from a ceiling fan to move – it did, and requested resident spirits to make a knocking sound – a knock was heard and recorded.
When not on this site, I can be found, along with Robbin Van Pelt, on a Facebook page titled “The Ghosts of Havre de Grace.” Havre de Grace, where I now reside, is a historic, waterfront town located where the Susquehanna River transitions into the Chesapeake Bay. It’s a place with old energy.
Havre de Grace has an extensive paranormal history that has yet to be properly collected and recorded. Most notably, Robbin and I have been investigating claims of paranormal activity in the town’s oldest building: The Rodgers’ House Tavern. The investigation has morphed into a long term project involving a great deal of historical research. Some the EVP collected in the building have been remarkably communicative. I’m excited to see how the project progresses.
This blog will chronicle my journey, destination unknown, into the realm of the paranormal.
