On July 13, 1990, the movie Ghost is released. Starring Patrick Swayze as a ghost who can't find peace, Demi Moore as his grieving lover and Whoopi Goldberg as a psychic. This movie went on to earn Goldberg an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and a domestic box office of $217,631,306. It also started a renewed interest in the paranormal as women flocked to this movie about love surviving death.
This movie also presented ghosts in a very realistic way.
Side note Bruce Willis was originally offered the Swayze role and passed it up thinking it would be too hokey. He quickly learned from his mistake and jumped at the chance to star in the box office smash The Sixth Sense in 1999.
