Aaron Burr was the third Vice President of the United States. He was VP under President Thomas Jefferson. Burr had an ongoing feud with the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton. Their political animosity. Their political hostility kept building until it finally boiled over when Hamilton tried to get re-nominated for VP and his attempt to be elected the Governor or New York in 1804. Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel. The duel took place on July 11 in Weehawken, NJ. Burr won and Hamilton died the next day. Burr was tried for treason and acquitted, and he lived the rest of his life with this cloud hanging over his head. Burr’s ghost is said to haunt the One If By Land, Two If By Sea Restaurant, in New York City. This building was once Burr's carriage house. According to numerous reports, visitors and staff have seen dishes fly of their own accord and have had chairs pulled out from under them by unseen hands. There have also been several reports of sightings of Burr and the smell of tobacco coming from empty rooms.
